Omar’s team and ours had both made an unscheduled premature exit from the main event at the North American Bridge Championships.
Rather than idling away the whole next day playing in some dreary “consolation” event, Omar had the inspired idea of playing a full-length private head-up match between our 2 teams instead, in the comfort of his luxurious suite where our intense concentration could be fortified with sumptuous refreshments and properly iced champagne. Now THAT is a consolation event.
