partnership play

Live

Join forces with your mentor for “hand-to-hand combat” in the arena of tournament play.
After each session of some two dozen deals played in live competition, a discussion of all the hands will follow in order to derive the key lessons that emerge – in essence, you are “watching the film of the game”, while conducting an ongoing dialogue.

Online

Essentially the same general set of activities, conveniently conducted in the comfort of your chosen surroundings, thanks to the outstanding “real-time play” software available on bridge websites, the best of these being BridgeBaseOnline (BBO). These platforms also include real-time chat functions, allowing for highly effective post-game analysis as well.

individual instruction

The most common format for this mode of tutelage is ONLINE BIDDING PRACTICE, using the excellent software tools found on the premier online bridge site, BridgeBaseOnline (BBO). Ideal for learning, and/or practicing, either new or established methods and systems – for example, when making the transition from some traditional framework to what is now
the contemporary standard system “2-over-1 Game-Forcing” (2/1GF).

Numerous alternative approaches, whether custom-tailored or otherwise, are also feasible – to be agreed on during initial consultation whose goal is to identify needs and objectives.

partnership coaching

In this modality, you play with a current partner – either a regular one, or perhaps a new one with whom you want to get off to a quick and maximally efficient start. The involvement of the coach can take a number of forms, generally including (but not limited to):
System Review & Counseling – Your current convention card is analyzed for both consistency and efficacy. In the case of a new partnership, which typically involves some compromise between the partly divergent preferences of the partners, mediation is provided to ensure that the hybrid product is viable, coherent, and streamlined.
Supervised Online Play – with observation by the mentor, followed by detailed feedback after the session, which typically consists of both recommendations and also questions for the partnership to ponder and resolve based on what they both feel most comfortable with.
Spectating Live Play – The mentor kibitzes full sessions of play in a live venue. This is logistically the trickiest to organize (since three people have to be in the very same place at the very same time) but has a massive potential benefit, as many aspects of partnership dynamic now become accessible to direct observation and therapeutic feedback.
